If you are in town for the Austin City Limits music festival this weekend, there are so many great places around town to stop and get some delicious GFVegan eats! Here is a suggested eating schedule for good, inexpensive, and quick bites:
DAY / EVENING & BRUNCH
1. Counter Culture *CASH ONLY*
(Thurs-Sat, noon-8PM; Sun noon-6PM)
120 E. North Loop / Ave F (www.countercultureaustin.com / also on Facebook)
- UPDATE: They are having all gluten-free specials this weekend!
- All VEGAN food trailer with raw & GF options. Typically, all of their desserts of GF including donut holes & "Cheeze"cakes. Great for a quick bite.
- All VEGAN food trailer with raw & GF options. Typically, all of their desserts of GF including donut holes & "Cheeze"cakes. Great for a quick bite.
- The website includes their basic menu, which is always available, but they have rotating specials that are usually GF. Check out the Facebook page for those details.
- This is a food trailer, so everything is made very quickly. You order at the counter for take-out, or you can sit at some of the picnic tables adjacent to the trailer. Drinks are available at the store next door (they have Kombucha available).
- Recommendations: This is hard because of the rotating menu, but if they have an item with their "mozzarella" or if they offer a cheezecake, definitely try them! The mozzarella is really delicious and the cheezecake with nut crust is AMAZING.
2. Mother's Cafe & Garden
(M-F, 11:15AM - 10PM; Sat & Sun 10AM - 10PM)
4215 Duval St., Austin 78751 (www.motherscafeaustin.com)
- All vegetarian restaurant with many vegan options and a GF & Nut Allergy menu.
- Go to BRUNCH on Sat & Sun from 10AM - 3PM. Their scrambles can be made with tofu & vegan "cheeze" instead of eggs & dairy.
- The staff is very knowledgeable about GF allergies and most of their sauces and dressings are all GF. The one that we know is NOT gluten-free is the 'mole. But, you can ask your waiter/waitress or look at the GF menu to be sure.
- Recommendations: Nachos (with vegan cheeze), and for brunch: Migas with tofu / Breakfast Tacos with tofu & corn tortillas / Huevos Motulenos with tofu & vegan cheeze
3. Snap Kitchen
(Mon-Thurs, 7AM-9PM; Fri, 7AM-8PM; Sat, 8AM-8PM; Sun, 9AM-8PM)
4616 Triangle Ave. (across from Whole Foods) & 1014 W. 6th St.
Website: www.snapkitchen.com
- This is a great place to get a quick meal on the go. They have all sorts of meals for all diets with allergens and restrictions clearly labeled. There are many GFVegan options available.
- Recommendations: Tofu breakfast scramble, curry cauliflower w/ tofu & beans, and hummus.
4. Wheatsville Co-Op
(Daily, 7:30AM - 11PM) / 3101 Guadalupe, Austin 78705 (www.wheatsville.coop)
- This is a grocery store near UT campus that, ironically, carries a ton of wheat-free products! They have a hot bar and cold selections that are great to grab and take back to the hotel room or when you are on the run. Most of the hot items use GF Tamari and there are many GFVegan options throughout the store.
- Recommendations: Veggie Tempeh Chili (hot bar), Tofu Scramble (hot bar), Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups (cold section), sushi pack (the inari is GF - cold section).
- Fun facts: the Co-op is a community owned partnership that is focused on organic, locally grown produce and products. They also have "wheat-free Wednesdays" in the bakery where the products are made wheat-free. Please still check for other gluten ingredients though, and to ensure they are also vegan.
24 Hour / Late Night
1. Kerbey Lane Cafe
(24 hours) / 5 locations throughout Austin - NW, UT, Central, S & SW
Check the website for the one near you (www.kerbeylanecafe.com)

- This well-known Austin favorite has something for everyone and is available whenever you need it. It serves all sorts of food and has vegan and gluten-free menus available. This is a great place to eat with friends (especially if not everyone shares the same GFV diet) any time of the day, but especially after running around town.
2. Vegan Yacht *CASH ONLY*
(Mon, 11AM-3PM; Tues-Thurs, 11AM-3PM & 7PM-Midnight; Fri-Sat, 7PM-3AM; Closed Sundays) / 1001 E.6th, ATX 78702 (www.theveganyacht.com, also on Facebook)
- If you want the Austin food truck experience, this is it! The Vegan Yacht is by far our favorite late-night eatery. The folks are friendly, prices are great, and service is fast. There are also several other food trailers around them for non-vegan friends. It's a great new location with several tables around to sit in a very casual environment and enjoy some healthy, organic grub with friends. Last week, on a Thursday night, there was an outdoor concert going on next to them, so we got food and a free show!
- Recommendations: The Frito Pie is DELICIOUS and so are the smoothies. We like our smoothies with the Maca powder for energy and the chocolate banana smoothie is a great dessert. They are planning on expanding their GF options, but the Frito Pie is enough for us. They also have a "slamwich" that can be made on GF bread and is so popular that we have not been able to try it yet b/c it is always sold out. We are looking forward to it, though!
There are many more options, but these are some of our favorites. Feel free to share your suggestions and opinions in the comments section below! Happy dining the Gluten-Free Vegans way!
